Originally trained as a graphic designer and had a
successful interior design business in London, South Korean-born Sae Mi Kim now
creates art and runs art workshops to share her passion for art.
Living in London means you never run out of inspiration, but
you always run out of time to do things. She missed drawing and painting while
leading a busy life in London. Moving to Doha with her husband gave her space
in her mind to start drawing and painting again.
Working in watercolor, ink, gouache, and pencils, Sae Mi
draws her inspiration from the nature and architecture of different cities.
Sae Mi currently lives and works in a studio a stone's throw
from a beautiful sandy beach in Doha. With views of the beach from her studio,
it is her haven and sanctuary, where she spends much of her time creating and
inspiring younger artists.

I live by the beach at Qanat Quartier. One afternoon in
October, the sky displayed the most beautiful sunset I have witnessed living
here—an ever-shifting symphony of colors—soft pastels blending seamlessly. I
stood there, captivated, trying to imprint every detail into my memory. I am
grateful for what I have experienced, and I very much enjoyed painting the
scene.

Umm Bab’s clay quarry is something so unique, I have never
seen it anywhere else.

I think sunsets in Doha are among the things people remember
the most. The sun appears to be big, intensely bright, and orange. I tried
taking pictures of it many times, but my pictures never did justice to the view,
so this was my humble attempt to capture that wonder.

I am fascinated with the intricate Arabic patterns around
the city of Doha. I wanted to create something that combines them with the Doha
skyline, which I admire.

This little island, a 20-minute boat ride from Pearl Island, is one of my favorite places in Doha. Here, the tides dance to craft a natural
pathway that leads your gaze to the distant city skyline.

The desert never ceases to amaze and inspire me. Myriad textures and the sweeping abstract lines that the dunes etch against the horizon. Each ridge is a brushstroke, each hollow is a breath of the earth.
