Hayyan Monawar is a Palestinian artist born in Qatar. His work is characterized by his surreal and realistic depiction that aspires to reveal the full dimensions of his subject. From recurring elements of current reality, individual memories, and intergenerational traumas. Manwar’s technique, which is revealed in an unhurried manner, arises in segments as if they were scenes from a story he is trying to tell through his works. Elements that he has given roles to create a dialogue between them. Sometimes some of them overwhelm others and are repeated at other times. The resulting work exists alone but continues to produce others to be a series of symbols that appear again as if they were a story of several scenes. Monawar graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Damascus and obtained a BA in Oil Painting in 2004. During his studies between 1999 and 2004, Monawar worked extensively on mixed media paintings and collages under the supervision of artists Buthaina Ali and Safwan Dahoul, whose teachings have influenced his abstraction and experimentation. In 1999, Munawar participated in workshops at the Adham Ismail Center for Fine Arts in Syria. Since his return to Doha in 2004, Munawar has worked in digital graphic arts and realistic paintings to this day. Local exhibitions in which he participated include a solo exhibition titled Hayyan Monawar: The Wall (2018) at Katara Cultural Village in Doha, and several solo and group exhibitions, including production exhibitions accompanying the Doha Film Festival since 2019.
